VoIP - Phone calls over the internet
VoIP is basically a phone system that works over your internet connection instead of the old copper phone lines
At its core, it does the same job as a normal phone — you pick up, you dial, you talk — but it’s a lot more flexible. You can use the same number on your office phone, your laptop, or even your mobile, so you’re not tied to a desk if you’re working from home or out on the road.
There’s also no big phone box hidden in a cupboard anymore. Everything runs online, which makes it much easier to manage. Need to add a new staff member? Change where calls go at lunchtime? Set up voicemail to email? It’s all quick stuff, not a half-day job.
The call quality is solid, and in most cases it works out cheaper too, especially with our 2000 minutes of calls per month to UK mobiles and landline numbers.
So really, VoIP just gives you a phone system that fits around how people work today — not how offices worked 20 years ago.
